Student Loan Portfolio Management

Boston Portfolio Advisors (“BPA”) has managed student loan portfolios and their collection for over 20 years – both government guaranteed and private loans.  BPA works with Career Schools, two and four year colleges, Lenders, Servicers, Collection Agencies, and other owners of student loan portfolios to reduce defaults and losses, and increase cash collections.    

 

Leveraging our technology, expertise and proprietary business processes, BPA has increased cash collections by 30%+ for our clients by the following actions:  

 

1.       Manage all Servicers

·         Implement BPA’s industry leading strategies to decrease portfolio delinquencies and losses

·         Set up and operate Champion/Challenger programs to identify best performing servicers and direct future placements accordingly

·         Implement strategic call and letter campaigns targeted at specific borrowers

·         Analyze performance data from all servicers and construct a monthly Management Report with charts and graphs to identify trends and highlight opportunities for improvement

·         Prepare recommendations on areas of improvement and work with the Servicers to implement recommendations or coordinate changes in procedures and reporting

·         Conduct Servicer quality control reviews and monitor compliance of service level agreements

·         Manage receivables throughout the full servicing and default lifecycle

 

2.       Manage all Collection Agencies

·         Manage the account transfer process from Servicer to Collection Agency, and from Agency to Agency (if applicable)

·         Set up and operate Champion/Challenger programs to identify best performing Collection Agencies and direct future placements accordingly

·         Work with your Collection Agencies to implement strategic call and letter campaigns targeted at specific borrowers based on BPA's proprietary Segmentation and Prioritization models

·         Analyze performance data from all Agencies and construct a monthly Management Report with charts and graphs to identify trends and highlight opportunities for improvement

·         Prepare recommendations on areas of improvement and work with the Agencies to implement recommendations or coordinate changes in procedures and reporting

 

3.       BPA’s Proprietary Student Loan “Gain Model” enables Servicers and Collection Agencies to improve collection effectiveness by categorizing borrowers into homogenous segments and prioritizing each loan based on the probability of payment.

 

Following Segmentation and Prioritization, BPA works with your Servicers and Collection Agencies to implement proven strategies to achieve the greatest results such as:

·         Implementing strategic call and letter campaigns targeted at specific borrowers

·         Offering selective Forbearance or Modification options

·         Settlement Offers are customized to each borrower based on probability of payment

·         Results are monitored and scoring methodology is continuously updated for future placements

 

4.       Address problems and bring to resolution across Servicers and Agencies

·         When issues or unfavorable trends develop that require input from our clients to resolve, BPA will gather the necessary information and present it to the client along with a recommendation for resolution

·         Work with appropriate party to implement resolutions

 

5.       Manage the account transfer process from Servicers to Collection Agencies

·         BPA will coordinate and implement the entire account placement process and oversee the loan transfer process from Servicer to Agency and Agency to Agency (if applicable)

 

6.       Monitor market conditions and recommend funding and optimization strategies, such as portfolio sales, securitizations or other financing alternatives as needs develop

 

7.       Prepare a Monthly Management Report:  BPA will review data and include observations in a monthly Management Report concerning delinquencies, defaults, recoveries, observed patterns and trends, and make recommendations to the service provider concerning ways to improve performance data in a customized format for management review including:

·         Servicer Metrics and Performance with graphs and charts

·         Servicer Delinquency Roll Rate analysis

·         Collection Agency Metrics and Performance with graphs and charts

·         First, Second and Third Placement Performance analysis across all Agencies

·         Forecast Model for Defaults and Recoveries

·         Static Pool Results

·         Champion/Challenger “Scorecard” reporting
